President's Message

Dear Members,

Let me first start by thanking the Board for the trust in electing me as the President of AACE Chinook-Calgary Section for the 2021-2022 program year. It’s with great honour that I look forward to serving the Board and all our members. I will endeavor to continue the great work and leadership from the previous Board and last year’s President, Paul Bouzanne, to continue to grow our section and deliver value to all our members.

Over the last year and a half, the ongoing COVID 19 pandemic has brought many challenges, but with these challenges, new opportunities arise. Here at AACE Chinook-Calgary, we could not conduct our regular Technical Dinner Meetings and in-person Skills & Knowledge Workshops. This in turn however gave us the opportunity to migrate to online Zoom Meetings, where we were able to reach a larger audience and bring more people in, as well as have out-of-town speakers present to us. Of course, a tougher challenge is all the cancelled projects and layoffs so many of our members have experienced. In these times it is as important as ever to leverage the opportunities an AACE membership brings. We offer a strong community, can help you network, and improve your skills through our Technical Dinner events and our Skills & Knowledge workshops. As a member, you also have access to AACE’s virtual library with more than 5,000 technical articles and certifications.

As we move into the 2021-2022 program year, we look forward to starting back up with in-person Technical Dinner events, and we will work to keep the cost of these down to our members. I believe we all have a longing for meeting fellow professionals face-to-face again, engaging in discussion, networking, and enjoying a nice meal along informative presentations. There will also be Skills & Knowledge workshops throughout the year and we are planning a two-day Symposium in April!

Your membership is highly appreciated. I look forward to networking and speaking to each of you at one of our many events throughout the 2021-2022 program year.

Sincerely,

Arvid Markhus - AACE Chinook-Calgary President, 2021-2022
